The awards were launched earlier this year to find the best examples in the UK of developments delivering the best economic, social or environmental improvements for their communities. Therefore, recognising the real estate industry’s vital role in society. Over 40 construction projects, whose entries celebrate their role in transforming London communities and the everyday lives of people, were shortlisted back in February.
The winners were announced on Friday 12 June at the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors’ digital awards ceremony. Watch the full video, on-demand.
Commenting on what makes Grand Junction at St Mary Magdalene’s particularly special, RICS Social Impact Awards Head Judge for London, Saba Nayab, said:
“This scheme has two distinct facets: the construction of a modern community building and the repair and conservation of the interior of this local landmark church. The project respectfully fuses these, resulting in new meeting rooms, popular event spaces and a welcome café. Strong collaboration with residents, the school and the wider community was evident; charming design features such as the stair treads and glazed wall tiles represent local history and events.”
The Heritage category recognises the conservation, renovation or restoration of a single building or a group of buildings or structures.
Other winners included: Here East (Commercial), English National Ballet (Education), New Addington Leisure & Community Centre (Leisure), and Mapleton Crescent SW18 (Residential).
We would like to say a huge thank you to Dow Jones Architects, all of the contractors and consultants involved in the project, and the National Lottery Heritage Fund.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
